Apply for a care level – All information about care levels 1–5
A care level (formerly care stage) determines the scope of benefits that care recipients receive from the care insurer. There are five care levels.
The 5 care levels at a glance
Care level 1
Minor impairment of independence
Score: 12,5 – 26,9
Care level 2
Considerable impairment of independence
Score: 27 – 47,4
Care level 3
Severe impairment of independence
Score: 47,5 – 69,9
Care level 4
Most severe impairment of independence
Score: 70 – 89,9
Care level 5
Most severe impairment with special care requirements
Score: 90 – 100
How do I apply for a care level?
The application is submitted to your responsible care insurer.
- Submit application: Informal application to the care insurer.
- Assessment: The Medical Service conducts an assessment.
- Decision: You receive the decision – usually within 25 working days.
Tip: Once your care level is determined, you are entitled to consumable care supplies worth up to €42 per month.
